The Italianate Residence

Architectural Resource is very pleased to invite you visit a beautiful, multi-phased remodel/addition project on the BRAGAA (Builders and Remodelers of Greater Ann Arbor) 2011 edition of the annual Remodeler's Home Tour.  Back by popular demand for an encore tour this home will be the lead-in home as Project #1 of the 17 participants.  This very special event will  showcase the top remodeling projects in southeastern Michigan.  The tour will feature recently completed projects opened for walk-throughs along with the opportunity to meet and learn from the leaders in the industry.   Architectural Resource's project will showcase a multiple award-winning, historically sensitive addition that was also featured regionally as the cover story in the Detroit News "Homestyle" section, and nationally in Clem Labine's Period Homes magazine in an article entitled "Italianate, Hyphenated".

Our Clients, the proud owners of a landmark 1860’s era Italianate home, desired to greatly improve their daily ingress and egress experience.  With a growing young family, the lack of a proper entry area and attached garage was something they wanted to address.  They also needed a guest suite to accommodate frequent out-of-town guests and visitors.  But in the homeowner’s own words, “He didn’t want to be known as the guy who ‘screwed up’ this beautiful old home”.  Our design challenge was to provide the needed space of a significant addition, but do so in a manner that would respect the historic home. Our design solution lay in providing a “hyphen”: a multi-functional daily entry breezeway connector linking the main house with a new garage and in-law suite above.  Come see an award-wining project tastefully woven into the character and ambience of the elegant home and let’s talk about how we can bring the same inspired design to your project!
